METHODOLOGY

 METHODOLOGY

The methodology proposed for this project consists on the performance of a situation analysis (baseline study in each partner country) to evaluate the concrete needs of Design for Sustainability (DfS) and innovation know how in the target sectors, the establishment of a strategy and guidelines for the integration of SInnDesign results in partner countries’ VET systems, the development of the SInnDesign training materials and tools (SInnDesign Manual, SInnDesign Tools, SInnDesign Resources Centre, SInnDesign Catalogue of Products and Manual for Teachers and Trainers), their test through pilot training sessions and workshops, and finally the evaluation, refining and editing of such materials.

  • WP1 – Situation analysis +

Sustainability is a concept that receives considerable attention from the building and “habitat” specialists in all participating countries, but in the case of the furniture, textile and building materials sectors there is a lack of know-how and training materials to support the systematic integration of sustainability and innovation considerations in the design management and product development processes. To support this presupposition by concrete evidence, the project starts with a situation analysis to identify existing materials on the subject and the needs experienced by companies (demand-side) and by vocational education and training (VET) institutions (offer-side).
  • WP2 – Integration of SInnDesign Materials into the national VET systems +

For a successful implementation of the developed content and methods, they need to be integrated into the national vocational training systems. Mechanisms for integrating and disseminating the outputs in existing curricula of relevant courses, as well as creating new ones, are developed in this WP.
  • WP3 – Development of the SInnDesign training materials and tools +

The aim of WP 3 is to develop the SInnDesign training materials and tools, which are the key elements of the project. Their objective is to provide VET institutions and companies related to the three sectors addressed in this project with a comprehensive, high quality and updated material on DfS and innovation, and thus reinforcing the competences of trainees and professionals in the field, increasing the employability possibilities of trainees and contributing to the competitiveness of the sectors in the framework of sustainable development challenges. The SInnDesign training materials and tools are composed of: the SInnDesign Modules on DfS and Innovation, the SInnDesign DfS and Innovation Tools, the SInnDesign Resources Centre and the SInnDesign Catalogue of Good Practice (products and business practices that are good examples of design for sustainability).
  • WP4 – Pilot training and demonstration workshops +

The aim of this work package is to perform pilot trainings and demonstration workshops with the target groups in each country in order to receive feedback concerning practicality and usability, reach a wide interest group and exchange experiences on the developed materials and tools. The SInnDesign Modules, Tools and other resources are implemented on real work cases either performed by students or professionals from design centers, education institutions or companies.
  • WP5 – Evaluation, harmonization and editing of the SInnDesign training materials and tools +

The most important aims in this workpackage are:

    - To harmonize formats for tools, chapters of the modules and any deliverables developed within SInnDesign training materials and tools from the very beginning of the project in order to optimize all the related tasks.
    - To develop an evaluation methodology to identify whether SInnDesign training materials and tools meet the targets set in the project.
    - To establish the mechanism and procedure to incorporate all the feedback from assessment activities performed in WP 4.
    - To produce the final versions of the SInnDesign Modules, Tools, Resource Centre, Catalogue of Good Practice and Manual for Teacher and Trainers.
  • WP6 – Dissemination and ensuring multiplying effect +

This work package aims at disseminating the project development and its results in efficient and innovative ways. The project include a series of elements that will assure a high demonstration effect to other sectors and trainers.

This work package entails dissemination in three different ways:

Website, which will be a multi-functional training and dissemination platform. The platform will be proactive and user driven and resulting in inspiring training material and tools based on experience gained through cases and national workshops.

Training and demonstration workshops held at companies, thus including business & industry closely in the project.

Publication of articles describing the material developed during the project and participating in the public debate regarding sustainability and the ways in which companies contribute in creating sustainable products.
  • WP7 – Project management and meetings +

WP 7 aim is to ensure that all project activities shall be carried out according with the project programme and budget, following the Lifelong Learning/Leonardo da Vinci administrative and financial rules. Its objective is also to assure the quality in all the processes of the project. Quality control activities will be internally performed during the whole project to verify that the project management, deliverables and results are of high quality, according with the objectives of the proposed project. Besides the overall management, this WP includes the organization and documentation of project meetings.
